It’s time to collect some treasure — STEM style!

The Clawsome Treasure Diver from Luki Lab is an interactive and educational water toy that challenges kids to collect the treasure from the bottom of a water capsule. Kids are tasked with maneuvering the diver — who floats at the top of the container — toward the bottom and hooking it onto one of the six pieces of treasure, only by squeezing and manipulating the outside of the toy. Made for kids ages 6 and up, mastering the art of the dive is half of the fun (and the other half is all the games you get to play after).

The toy requires some assembly with a little adult supervision or assistance to make sure it works properly. Follow the steps very carefully to fill up the capsule with water and place all of the pieces in position, including the diver, shark’s jaw, pirate sword, cannon, jar, anchor, and ship wheel.

Because of the way it looks, I originally thought this game was going to be a next-level version of Waterfuls, but after playing with it, it’s more like Sea Diver from Parker Brothers in the ’70s. Players will squeeze the water chamber to move the diver up and down, and tilt the entire container as the diver sinks to collect the sunken treasures.

Inevitably, kids are going to ask, “But hoooooow does it work?” And, thankfully, parents won’t have to scratch their heads and come up with a bogus, made-up answer that might be right. The Clawsome Treasure Diver is officially STEM.org authenticated, so the instruction manual explains the science behind how the toy works. Spoiler alert: It’s all thanks to the Archimedes principle, and kids will get to learn all about it in a hands-on, interactive way.

So, thanks to the magic of science, kids can master their diving skills solo. My natural, competitive side came out and it was pretty addicting for me to try to capture the treasure. There is a bit of a learning curve to this toy that requires some skill and speed, so I hooted, hollered, and even exclaimed a boisterous “WHOOP!” when I hooked a piece the first time. Kids are definitely going to have as much fun as me playing, giving them some screen-free play for a little while.

I love that the instructions come with seven different game options for kids to play. Once kids master the strategy required for the three solo games, they can challenge their family and friends to three additional games, including Battle of the Claws and Catch & Release.

The Clawsome Treasure Diver only has three rules — squeeze, dive, and retrieve — but the educational and play value is endless!
