Laser Pegs Combat Fighter What’s better than simply building designs out of small construction bricks? Seeing them come to life, of course! The Combat Fighter kit, from Laser Pegs, does just that and checks off my top three important features in toys: It’s fun, affordable, and has tons of play value.

Made for kids ages 5 and up, the kit comes with 10 light-up Laser Pegs and 48 additional translucent construction bricks. The light-up pieces attach to the other see-through bricks, so when a construction is attached to the power source, it lights it up and color travels though the bricks. It also includes a triangular power base, which cycles through four different power settings, including different paces of flashing. For added fun, the base also makes sounds!

One of the best parts about this product is that so many different models can be built out of the provided pieces. It comes with instructions to build the Combat Fighter Bomber, and seven additional building instructions are available for download on the Laser Pegs website: Delta Wing Fighter, Osprey, Rescue Chopper, Ski Plane, Supersonic Canard, Transport Plane, and UFO.

Laser Pegs Rescue Chopper I built the Combat Fighter Bomber and Rescue Chopper, and although the pieces lock in tight and don’t fall apart, it was easy to take apart and start building another model. One of the Laser Pegs that attaches to the base swivels, so while the construction is on the base, it has total mobility to move around so kids can truly pretend to fly their plane in the air. Also, the true magic is that, just like all other construction toys, kids can build anything they want using their imaginations.

Building the different models didn’t take up too much time and wasn’t that difficult (although different designs vary in difficulty level), so this is a great building toy for kids who have a tendency to get easily frustrated. Also, something about seeing the designs light up makes it that much more special. If kids have other Laser Pegs sets, all of the pieces are compatible with one another to build even more awesome designs. And, kids can light up bedtime to double up their creations as a night-light.
