CrossWaysIt sounds easy enough to place markers on a board get from one side of the board to the other, right? Wrong. CrossWays from USAopoly is a fresh and exciting board game that combines playing cards, placing markers, and making paths across the board. This game requires a deceiving amount of strategy and thinking ahead, which ensures that kids and adults alike will not get bored.

It took a moment to take in all of the rules, but once we got the hang of it, it was a full on war. The game is set up in squares like a checkerboard, but with alternating black and red colors and a letter or number corresponding with a suit from the deck of cards provided. Each player can hold five cards at one time, and during a single turn he or she can either place a marker on the corresponding spot on the board with one of the cards or discard a card for a new one.

The object of the game is to complete a path of markers from one side of the board to the opposite side. The first person to do so wins the game. There’s a catch: your path can’t use any diagonals. Oh, and the other teammates can completely sabotage you. If you draw two cards of the same suit in order (runs), then you get to remove two of your opponents’ markers from anywhere you choose. Markers can also be placed on top of one another to block other players from using that spot. If you happen to draw the same card of different suits, you can place two markers of your own wherever you’d like.

You not only have to think about your own path, but everyone else’s paths as well, because your way to win is all determined by everyone else. This game is half strategy and half luck. CrossWays is a really fun game to play with friends or use during family game night.
