Despicable Me 3 drives into theaters on June 30, and viewers will finally meet Gru’s identical twin brother, Dru.

A couple things about Dru:

  1. You can distinguish him from Gru by his full head of hair and all white ensemble.
  2. He is rich.
  3. He is evil and will try to bring Gru back into the villain world.
  4. He has a golden car that also doubles as a rocket ship.

Dru’s Transforming Car, part of Mattel’s Mega Construx Despicable Me 3 product line, gives kids the opportunity to build Dru’s iconic vehicle from the film. This 286-piece set contains snap-on pieces for the getaway car, Dru and minion character figures, and a radiant red gem.

In the upcoming film, Dru steals a precious gem and takes off with it in his car. His getaway car—of course—is no average ride. The car is equipped with a hidden compartment behind the driver’s seat to house the snatched gem, two missiles, and other moving parts used for defense. Kids will find all these villainous features reflected in Mattel’s buildable version.

Just like in the film, this constructible car has working wheels and seats both Dru and the minion, to really allow kids to recreate their favorite scenes from the movie. Dru’s arms and legs also bend, allowing him to be positioned and sit securely in the car.

Adults may want to assist kids assemble this very detailed car, which should take about 30-45 minutes to complete. While the build may be challenging, it produces a sturdy and secure vehicle that will last far past the closing credits.

But the real novel part of this car (drumroll, please) is that once you snap off the wheels, it is time for blast off as the vehicle is transformed into a rocket ship. Good thinking, Dru! You may be evil, but that’s one smart way to avoid traffic.

This replica is one of eight in Mattel’s Mega Construx Despicable Me 3 line. Each toy represents a different scene or item from the movie and kids can collect them all to build their own Minion universe.
