Grammy-nominated recording artist, Elizabeth Mitchell released a new songbook, The Sounding Joy for Smithsonian Folkways. The album explores American folk tradition Christmas and solstice songs from Ruth Crawford Seeger’s songbook as it emphasizes traditions of sacred song, dance, contemplation, and gathering during the holiday season.
The Sounding Joy features husband Daniel Littleton, daughter Storey, and special friends Peggy Seeger, Natalie Merchant, Amy Helm, Aoife O’Donovan, and many more family, friends, and neighbors. The 24-song collection is for listeners of all ages while each song is intended to remind them of the real meanings of Christmas.
