Hasbro‘s Fantastic Gymnastics is a unique and compelling game that puts players’ rhythmic abilities to the test. The challenge? Flip a gymnast around a high bar, dismount, and stick a landing that would make Simone Biles proud. The game comes with one gymnast figure with velcro feet, one high bar base, two high bar supports, a velcro landing mat, and a set of instructions that includes a tournament bracket so kids ages 8 and up can keep track of who’s on their way to victory.
Before players can start sending their acrobatic figure soaring through the air, they’ll need to assemble the high bar. The entire setup takes no more than a few minutes, but kids will need an adult’s help to unscrew a panel and insert four AA batteries (not included). When it’s time to play, players can place the gymnast onto the bar by snapping his hands into the two little grooves on its underside.
To get into the swing of things, players press the yellow button on the high bar base slow enough to develop a rhythm. As the gymnast figure kicks his legs with each press, kids can up the tempo and watch him swing higher. It’s kind of like pumping your feet on a swing, and there’s a learning curve to it.
After gaining enough momentum to flip the gymnast figure around the high bar, kids will have to determine the right moment to hit the release button and let him fly. Releasing too early or too late will only result in a nasty wipeout, so timing is everything! Kids will have to get used to the proper pacing and timing in order to score big, but that’s where the fun truly lies. If nailing the landing was easy, everyone would be a champion.
The velcro landing mat has three zones, worth either 25, 50, or 100 points. Kids can challenge their friends, run a full-on tournament, or play solo and try to beat their own high score as they sharpen their skills for the next round of competition.
The instruction guide even features “Tips from the Pros,” which offer helpful hints on how kids can stick the perfect landing and earn that coveted 100-point score.
