Gemmies, from Tech 4 Kids, is the newest way for kids to create 3-D beading crafts. Kids can build up adorable crystal-looking 3-D figures through a simple clip and connect method. All they have to do is simply click the Gemmies crystals to the rubber bands, and follow the patterns to clip multiple bands together and voila! Kids end up with fun craft products that they can swap, share, and display.
At first glance at the patterns, I was intimidated. But trust me, they look way more intense than they are. It’s super easy to snap the gems onto the bands and the patterns are very easy to follow once you get the hang of it. It’s cool to work through each creation step-by-step as you add layers to create familiar animals, flowers, and other shapes.
While Gemmies comes in smaller crafting packs, the Design Studio allows kids to really get started on building up the ultimate crystallized collection. It doubles as a storage place and a great way for kids to keep all their materials organized—and if they’re anything like me as a kid, that is super important. The drawer slides out with different compartments to sort beads and bands. It also comes with four dishes to keep the colored gems that kids are currently working with on hand and separated.
Gemmies is great as far as activity toys go because the design studio will keep kids busy. The patterns keep them focused—and to be honest, are super therapeutic—and at the end of the process, kids will have been able to create fun little figures of their very own. Once kids get the hang of the way to create these neat little gemmed creatures, they can start getting creative on their own, switching up colors, and eventually even discovering how to build new creations. Plus, with Gemmies Design Studio, kids can build up blinged out creations they’ll be proud to show off.
