An iconic song is the inspiration for a new kid’s picture book from Guns N’ Roses created in collaboration with author James Patterson and illustrator Jennifer Zivoin.
Sweet Child O’ Mine is inspired by the lyrics of the 1987 single from the band’s debut album, Appetite for Destruction. The picture book is described as following “a child’s wondrous discovery that music is everywhere around us — from the gentle wind blowing through the bluest skies, to the fearful crash of the thunder and the rain.”
According to People, the kids in the book — Natalia and Maya Rose — are based upon a pair of real-life cousins who grew up touring with the band. One is the daughter of Guns N’ Roses manager Fernando Lebeis and one his sister’s.

As for Patterson’s involvement, the famed author will release the book through his Jimmy Patterson imprint of Little, Brown and Company.
“As a longtime fan of Guns N’ Roses, I’m thrilled to partner with the band in bringing their famed hit song to life on the page,” Patterson told People.
Sweet Child O’ Mine hits bookstores on September 1.
