Kids Story Builder leverages the camera and audio capabilities of the Nokia Lumia phone to create fun, interactive photo experiences for kids and their parents. The app helps young kids create their own personalized stories using real stories and voices. For example, when I tested this out on the Nokia Lumia 1520 phone, the preloaded story was one of a little girl who spent the day at the zoo with her dad. Through the Kids Story Builder app, the little girl and her dad will both be able to relive that fun day—while the little girl also gets to practice her storytelling skills and exercise her creativity.
Building a story is simple. Users can take pictures or add shots from their photo library, add text overlays, and record voiceover or sounds as narration to sync with each slide. Once the story is finished, they can be played back in full screen with touch controls, so kids can share with the whole family. For friends and family that aren’t able to be present for story time, kids can share their creations by exporting their stories to OneDrive in a native format (compatible with matching Windows 8 app) or as a PowerPoint slideshow.
The Kids Story Builder app is available for free in the Windows Phone store. A small in-app purchase is required to remove a limit of three custom stories and thirty pages, so that your storytelling can be endless. This allows kids to create custom bedtime or playtime stories of their own, and teaches the basics of storytelling. It’s very cool that it not only provides great education and entertainment purposes, but also a creative way to relive favorite memories over and over again.
In June of this year, judges selected Kids Story Builder as the winner of the Imagin8 Mission for its creative, original concept and use of the Nokia Imaging SDK.
