“Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen! It’s not going to happen!”

Sorry Regina George, but if Gretchen Weiners played you in Krazy Wordz, she would definitely be the reigning Queen, or should I say reigning Plastic?

The new game from Ravensburger is a crazy word creation challenge, where players try to create words and have other players guess the correct meaning.

There are a few different types of cards: guess cards, task cards, and number cards. First, each player gets their own set of guess cards—which are numbered one to eight—and the matching word board. For every round, each player picks up one task card, which contains the description of the word that players must create. For example, a task card may say “Something Enormous” or “Scary Movie Title.” Lastly, the number cards go in the center of the playing area and are where each task card will be placed while everyone tries to guess which player’s word goes matches the task cards.

After each player has their own task card, they leave it face down so that no one else can see it. Now, everyone takes six consonant letter tokens and three vowel letter tokens, which are labeled dark blue and light blue, respectively.

Here comes the fun. Players must use the letters they have to create a word that does not exist, but still fits the topic on the card. This is where players will have to tap into their creativity and prepare for a lot of laughs. For example, my task card read “Children’s Cereal,” so I had to work with the letters that I had in order to make a word that that I thought would be a catchy, new cereal name. With my letters—A, E, G, M, O, Q, R, S,U—I settled on the word, “Qremos.”

Once all players place their new word on their word board, player one must collect everyone’s task cards and shuffle them. Depending on how many others are playing, players can add random task cards into the mix for an added challenge.

Now, player one places one task card under each of the number cards in the center of the playing area. Every player places their guess card with the number that matches their task card face down by their word. Then, players look at the different task cards and try to match it to the other player’s words. When a player thinks they have nailed it, he or she takes one of their guess cards, which are numbered one to eight, and places it face down with the number that matches the task card in front of each player.

Laughter will ensue as everyone reads their word out loud for the first time and sees who guessed right. A player earns one point for every word that he or she correctly guesses, and a point for every player that guesses their word correctly. The game continues for five more rounds. The player with the most points at the end of the sixth round wins the game.

As everyone tries to come up with the most clever and catchy words, players will be laughing the whole way through. It’s official, this zany family fun game is totally fetch.
