These aren’t your mom’s fashion dolls.

My Avastars from WowWee bring the metaverse to the toy chest with customizable looks and plenty of accessories. When I was a kid — and even now — half the fun of venturing into any online game was creating an avatar in whichever way seemed fit. With My Avastars, the fun of the customization is taken off screen for a unique play experience.

Kids can collect five core characters, each one 11 inches tall. KAWAIIPIE^^, A_VIBETHNG, DREAMER_3.0, HYPEGIRRRRL_77, and TRACKIE-O (a Walgreens exclusive) each have their own unique vibe and come with their own signature outfits. Each doll features a second bonus outfit and more than 50 reusable stickers. Kids can mix and match clothes between the dolls to truly make a one-of-a-kind fashion statement. Hairstyles are also detachable for the ultimate customization.

The dolls themselves are blocky, like most online avatars are. When it comes out of the package it’s bare, just waiting to be customized. Kids can choose everything right down to the expression the doll wears on its face. If they place a sticker down but then see one they like better, they can easily peel it off without ruining it to replace it. The clothes are made of a vinyl-feeling material, making them durable and easy to use. The hair surprised me the most, as I expected it to be soft and flimsy. Instead, it was hefty, which means it will stay in place.

At the price point of $24.99, it’s hard not to want to buy all five. If these dolls end up on kids’ wish lists this year, parents and other loved ones should coordinate on who buys which one. Even if kids do just get one doll, there’s more than 100 ways to customize in each box!

As there is seemingly with everything nowadays, there’s an online component to these dolls as well. Kids can log onto game.myavastars.com to virtually try out looks before trying them out on their dolls.

How will your kids dress up My Avastars?
