LEGO Vidiyo first launched in January with physical LEGO products and an app that kids can use to add augmented reality elements and special effects as they direct, produce, and share customizable music videos.

That musical world is getting bigger and bolder with eight new products that expand the music genres, special effects, and stage settings of those DIY videos. The LEGO Group and Universal Music Group (UMG) announced the new products today, including two BeatBoxes, 12 bandmates, and five brick-built stage models.

The new BeatBoxes include the Metal Dragon and the Folk Fairy, both containing a minifigure themed to the musical genre, a scanning stage, two BeatBits unique to each type of BeatBox, and 14 randomly assigned BeatBits. Kids can create new bands with the characters from the Metal Dragon and Folk Fairy BeatBoxes or add the new characters to their existing bands if they already own LEGO Vidiyo products from the original launch.

The BeatBits act as special effects for the music videos and kids can customize their videos further by add in more BeatBits, such as alien plants, acoustic guitar sounds, and dancing flamingos. Once the new BeatBoxes debut in the U.S. on Aug. 1, LEGO Vidiyo players will be able to choose from 134 different BeatBit effects and eight BeatBoxes in total.

Don’t underestimate the power of a great backdrop. Kids can add some pizzazz to their music videos with five new stage model backdrops, including a Candy Castle Stage, a Robo HipHop Car, a K-Pawp Concert, a Punk Pirate Ship, and The Boombox. The backgrounds will also launch on Aug. 1 in the U.S. and will unlock even more digital backgrounds and speakers that kids can customize in the app.

In addition, 12 new bandmates will launch on Oct. 1, each of which includes a unique BeatBit and two more randomly selected BeatBits. UMG continuously adds new music tracks to the Vidiyo app to keep those music videos funky fresh. Earlier this year, UMG’s Astralwerks label teamed up with the LEGO Group to debut the musical artist L.L.A.M.A. (an acronym for “Love, Laughter, and Music Always”). L.L.A.M.A. is the first musician to release a song in the Vidiyo app: “Shake,” featuring Ne-yo and Carmen DeLeon.
