After nearly 40 years since The Smurfs made their TV debut in the ’80s, the little, blue buggers are back with a new, CG-animated series on Nickelodeon, called The Smurfs.
After several feature films, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty, Clumsy, and the rest of Smurf Village are back again with new adventures beginning in September. In the premiere episode, “Smurf-Fu,” Smurfette will rescue Brainy from a giant snake and the rest of the Smurfs will ask her to teach them “Smurf-Fu.” In “Diaper Daddy,” everyone is tired of changing Baby’s diapers, so Handy invents a robot to get the job done.
David Freeman (7 Promises) will voice father figure Papa Smurf; Berangere McNeese (Matriochkas) will play the curious Smurfette; Lenny Mark Irons (No Man’s Land) will voice Gargamel, a conniving human wizard who wants to capture Smurfs; Youssef El Kaoukibi (NRJ Belgium) will play Brainy, who thinks he is the smartest of the bunch; and Catherine Hershey (Boundary Games) will voice Willow, the brave and wise matriarch of a new tribe of girl Smurfs.
The Smurfs will premiere on Friday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon, with new episodes launching on Friday nights. Jazwares is also heading for Smurf Village as the global master toy partner for The Smurfs, so we can expect figures, playsets, and plush toys to hit shelves next year.
