Celebrate Pokémon Day in style in New York City — or from your playroom!

Each year on Pokémon Day, Pokémon fans — aka trainers — celebrate the original launch of the video game in Japan. This year, Pokémon Day will take place Feb. 27, marking 28 years since the launch, with an especially bright event in NYC.

Between sunset and 2 a.m. ET on Pokémon Day, the Empire State Building will light up the skyline in blue and yellow, inspired by the Pokémon logo and in celebration of the upcoming Pokémon Horizons: The Series, which will premiere on Netflix on March 7.

Those who visit the Empire State Building on Feb. 27 can also complete exclusive Timed Research tasks in Pokémon Go and earn special rewards including Incense, Lure Modules, and an encounter with a party hat-wearing Pikachu. There will also be additional themed PokéStops near the Empire State Building. Lure Modules used on PokéStops will have a higher chance of attracting the Symbol Pokémon Unown as well.

If you’re not located near the Empire State Building, you can still enjoy the fun. Trainers are invited to look for a special appearance by Pokémon Horizons: The Series star Captain Pikachu on the Empire State Building’s social media during Pokémon Day! You can follow Captain Pikachu as he explores the landmark.

The Pokémon Co. International will also donate $10,000 to The Toy Foundation in celebration of Pokémon Day. The donation to the New York-based charity aims to provide philanthropic support to families and children in New York and other locations.
