Water balloons are always a fun way to cool down on a warm summer day, and now families can add some friendly competition to their water balloon play.

Ryan’s World Head Splat from Far Out Toys is an outdoor water game designed for kids ages 5 and up. It is a new take on the company’s Splash Out game, only this version is inspired by YouTuber Ryan, of Ryan ToysReview.

The game comes with a plastic, baseball hat-style helmet, which players take turns wearing in the game. There is a plastic basket attached to the top of the helmet, as well as a string hanging from the bill.

The premise of the game is simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy: Hang a full water balloon from the string, then use your head to swing the balloon up and into the basket without popping it. With the use of your hands prohibited, aiming for the basket can be pretty tricky. It’s even tougher, though, because the rim of the basket has a sand paper texture that’ll easily burst a balloon.

Players take turns passing the helmet around and attempting to land the balloon. A successful turn earns a player one point, while a burst balloon means that player is “head splatted” and out for the rest of the round. A round ends when either one player gets five points or only one player is still dry.

Kids (and adults) may feel a bit silly when they first try the game, but it is a great opportunity for everyone in the family to feel silly and laugh together.

One helpful feature: The string length is easy to adjust. This helps even out the playing field if you have a mix of ages playing together. The helmet’s Velcro chin strap also fits a wide range of head sizes and is easy for kids to adjust themselves.

The game comes with 24 water balloons to fill, but you may run through them pretty quickly — especially as you’re still getting the hang of the game. However, any generic water balloons should work well with this game.

Overall, Head Splat is a creative, fun, physical challenge that the whole family can enjoy this summer!
