Story Time Chess — the company behind the game/curriculum that teaches kids as young as 3 years old how to play chess — is bringing some holiday cheer to its website with a free story and mini game for kids.
Families can head to storytimechess.com to check out Clip and Clop Save the Holidays, a story about two horse heroes that help bring gifts to all the kids in the kingdom when a blizzard blocks King Chomper and Queen Bella from delivering holiday presents.
After kids read the story, they can follow the instructions to play the accompanying game of chess, which instructs them to find at least 64 small objects that each fit on a chessboard square, like pennies, buttons, or marshmallows.Â
Kids can learn how to gallop the knights around the board, trying to cover as much of the board with pieces without running out of empty squares to move to. There’s also an alternate version with a different way to play.
Reading the story and then using objects from around the house to play the game shows that you don’t always need to spend money or buy fancy things to have fun! Click here to check it out.
