It’s always a great time to support Black businesses, but if you needed another excuse to get the kids some prime back-to-school products, August is also National Black Business Month.

Teni and Tayo Creations is a Black-owned, woman-owned shop headquartered in the U.S. that offers toys, books, backpacks, and apparel that celebrate diverse characters and African stories. Founder Omobola (also known as author Simisayo Brownstone) hopes to share the vibrant culture, creativity, and entrepreneurship of Africa with the rest of the world through STEM activities and inclusive characters for kids.

There are two characters showcased across all the products. Feyi Fay is a Nigerian superhero fairy who travels the world helping kids solve everyday problems from bullying to making friends. Captain Nosa is a Nigerian neuroscientist and superhero who is a master in African martial arts and has the ability to make people extremely smart.

The toy selection includes Smart STEM Building Sticks, a Build Your Own Solar Powered Car kit, Feyi Fay’s Jewelry Making Kit, a Build Your Own Safe & Lock Box kit, and a jigsaw puzzle. For kids who love to read, there are activity books and more traditional stories. Kids can also choose from a selection of backpacks, hoodies, T-shirts, and sneakers featuring the two characters.

Parents can find all of these products on teniandtayo.com, where they can also learn about the virtual and in-person Build-A-Toy workshops and lessons on African folktales.
