There’s a new picture book on the way — and it’s by your favorite celebrity couple! Families can preorder Emmy award-winner Ross Mathews’ and Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews’ upcoming kid’s book Tío and Tío: The Ring Bearers now.
The story is inspired by the author’s real wedding, as their nephews took their responsibility seriously — they decided to create a fun story based on cultural heritage, responsibility, tradition, and family. It’s published by Penguin Young Readers, a division of Penguin Random House.
In the picture book, brothers Evan and Andy journey to Mexico to serve as the ring bearers at their uncles’ wedding. The kids are focused on swimming and playing soccer, but soon embrace their roles as ring bearers while feeling the love and celebratory atmosphere. Evan and Andy are encouraged to embrace their culture and speak Spanish while they assume important positions.
Tío and Tío: The Ring Bearers features illustrations by Tommy Doyle and a special foreword by Drew Barrymore. Parents might recognize Ross Mathews as the cohost and producer on The Drew Barrymore Show, and as a judge and producer on RuPaul’s Drag Race. His husband and coauthor, Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews, has a doctorate of education in educational policy and leadership and has served in education for more than a decade.
The book is available to preorder now, and families can expect to have their copy when it is published on April 15.
