Acquire property, build your empire, stay out of jail, and crush your friends into submission—all of the basics of living… I mean, of playing Monopoly. Hasbro’s classic mogul-making game has been around for centuries, and it’s taken on many collectible forms, but now, kids can personalize their very own version with My Monopoly.
My Monopoly includes all of the standard play pieces, including Chance and Community Chest cards, play money, houses and hotels, property deed cards, all of the iconic movers (including the new cat playing piece), and the game board. However, it also comes with blank green tiles and two blank sticker sheets that kids can use to personalize the game board.
Kids have the option of downloading the free My Monopoly app or they can log on to www.mymonopoly.com to begin customizing their stickers. Kids can select photos from their computer or smart device, or download directly from Facebook. We tested via desktop, and the photos are extremely easy to upload, and kids can even add fun captions to the bottom. Kids can upload as many photos as they want, and then choose which ones they want to add to their sticker sheet. Mom and Dad may need to assist with printing—just to ensure the sticker sheet is placed in properly. Once everything is printed, kids can adhere the stickers to the blank green tiles, and place their pieces all around the game board, on the Chance and Community Chest cards, and insert them into the moving tokens. Boardwalk can become your favorite cousin’s house. St. James Place could be Walt Disney World, and Vermont Avenue could be the family-favorite mall.
Best of all, nothing is permanent. Molly may be in love with Derrick this week and bestowed his photo on the treasured Scotty Dog token, but if they suffer a tragic breakup, Molly can simply remove Derrick’s sticker and place a new one right over it. The game board also features all of the classic property names in indented spaces on the game board, so if families decide they’d rather play the original version, they can!
The game allows for great family interaction, especially when it comes to inside jokes, making memories, and sharing embarrassing photos in a whole new way. My Monopoly also adds a new level of creative play to the classic game of dealing and trading. Personalizing the game board is an activity all its own, perfect for a rainy day or leading up to a party, sleepover, or family game night.
Combining all of the classic elements of America’s favorite board game with each family’s personal flare, My Monopoly will be a new staple under coffee tables everywhere this holiday season.
