Sometimes you have to see it to believe it.
Thames & Kosmos launched a new STEM experiment kit called Optical Illusions. Kids can learn firsthand how their eyes and brain work together to perceive color, light, depth, perspective, size, shape, and motion with more than 35 experiments.
The kit will help teach kids how the eye and a camera are similar and how they are different; help them explore spatial vision and depth perception with 3D glasses and an Ames room model; and teach them about light and the color spectrum by building a color wheel, a fiber optic peacock, and diffraction glasses. Other experiments include building a camera obscura and pinhole glasses; investigating lenses and light refraction; and helping kids find their blind spot to watch things disappear.
With the 48-page, full-color manual, kids can view optical illusions involving shapes, color, depth, and scale. They can make a curved line look straight, turn cardboard transparent, see colors in black and white, and more as they explore human perception and the physics of light.Â
The Optical Illusions kit is recommended for kids ages 10 and up, and it’s available on thamesandkosmos.com now for $29.95.
