On Sept. 1, kids can experience some royal fun with some jammin’ tunes as Barbie Princess Adventure debuts on Netflix.

Barbie Princess Adventure is a modern fairytale from Mattel Television that follows Barbie and her friends on a class trip to the country of Floravia to meet Princess Amelia, who bears a striking resemblance to Barbie. Princess Amelia, nervous about becoming queen, is looking for an escape and devises a plan to switch places with Barbie, setting the stage for an adventure involving self-discovery, a rival prince, and a hefty dose of original pop songs.

If the life-swapping story sounds a bit familiar, there’s a good reason for that.

Barbie Princess Adventure is the third animated Barbie film to pull inspiration from Mark Twain’s 1881 novel, The Prince and the Pauper, following Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper (2004) and Barbie: The Princess & the Popstar (2012).

The new movie features songs by Matthew Tishler and Andrew Underberg with an original score and additional songs by The Math Club. The soundtrack will be available on all of your favorite digital streaming services including Spotify, Amazon, and Apple Music beginning Aug. 28.

And because the kids are bound to ask, yes — there are toys! A collection of Barbie Princess Adventure dolls, fashions, and playsets is available now.
