Barbie truly does it all and now she’s about to be a TV star — and she’s taking her little sister Chelsea along for the ride.
Mattel Television is bringing families two animated Barbie TV specials, beginning with Barbie & Chelsea The Lost Birthday this spring. This will be the first television movie featuring Chelsea in a starring role as she embarks on a family cruise for her seventh birthday. When the Roberts family crosses the International Date Line, Chelsea realizes that her actual birthday has been lost and she takes off on an enchanted jungle island journey in an attempt to save it.
Directed by Cassi Simonds (Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures), the 60-minute special will debut on Netflix in the U.S. before rolling out on additional broadcast and streaming platforms. Mattel will also launch dolls, playsets, and accessories based on Chelsea this spring.
Barbie fans can also look forward to a new musical special this fall, following the success of last year’s Barbie Princess Adventure, which is currently available on Netflix.
