There’s no harder goodbye than the goodbye to the holiday season — watching the joyous sparkle fade into winter darkness is, quite frankly, depressing. Luckily, HBO Max has a host of new specials and episodes that kids can bundle up for as they enter the new year. 

Magic won’t be too far behind us on Jan. 1 with the premiere of Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. Starring returning cast members Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and other familiar faces, the retrospective special invites fans to get an up-close look at the making behind the iconic franchise. Fans can enjoy in-depth interviews and cast conversations as they celebrate the magical 20-year anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

For any Potterheads looking to acquire super-fan status, there will also be a four-part bracket-style quiz competition hosted by Helen Mirren. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses celebrates Wizarding World fandom by inviting players to show off their Harry Potter knowledge. The competition will begin streaming on Jan. 1 on HBO Max.

Bugs Bunny and the crew will also be ringing in the New Year with season four of the Looney Tunes Cartoons. Launching on Jan. 20, the new season promises 10 new episodes that take mayhem and misadventures to new heights! 

Everyone’s favorite pleasant puppets are back with all-new episodes of Sesame Street. Check out the complete list of January episodes below! 

  • “Hike Pirates” begins streaming on Jan. 6, and follows Abby, Rudy, and Freddy on a hike as they learn to appreciate nature and each other’s company 
  • “Martin Luther King Jr. Day” begins streaming on Jan. 13, as Elmo and friends make a Peace Tree to celebrate the fairness, kindness, and love of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s teachings 
  • “Astro Team Alpha” begins streaming on Jan. 27, inviitng kids to follow along with Elmo, Abby, and Cookie Monster as their space game goes awry .

A new animated series, Mush-Mush & The Mushables, will also premiere on HBO Max on Jan. 28. The show tells the story of young, fung-tastic forest guardians as they encounter the trials and tribulations of growing up. Check it all out on HBO Max!
