LeBron James has quite a lengthy CV: professional basketball player and champion, entrepreneur, and producer. Now, he’s adding one more title to his resume: kids’ book author.
HarperCollins Publishers announced a new two-book deal with James, beginning with a picture book titled I Promise that is inspired by the LeBron James Family Foundation’s “I Promise” program. The campaign aims to provide resources and incentives to encourage students to stay in school and #StriveForGreatness.
“Books have the ability to teach, inspire, and bring people together,” James said in a statement. “That’s why these books, and the opportunity to get children and parents reading together, mean so much to me. Most importantly, we wanted to make sure these stories are ones that every single kid can see themselves in. I Promise is powerful in that way, and I can’t wait for people to read it.”
The book, according to the publisher’s description, inspires kids to learn that “tomorrow’s success starts with the promises we make to ourselves and our community today” through James’ rhyming text and vibrant illustrations by Nina Mata. The book, currently available to preorder, will be released this August.
