National Geographic is launching a huge celebration on the eve of Earth Day with multiple activities, a huge lineup of musical artists, and a virtual journey guided by the National Geographic Explorers.
Travel expert Jessica Nabongo, the first documented Black woman to travel to every single country in the world, will host this year’s event. Viewers can join in remotely to watch musical guests perform from parts of the world that are significant to them, including AURORA, Angélique Kidjo, José González, Maggie Rogers, Rostam, Valerie June, Willie Nelson, Yo-Yo Ma, Ziggy Marley, and a world premiere of My Morning Jacket’s new music video.
Throughout the event, various National Geographic Explorers will make appearances, including conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, Dr. Rae Wynn Grant, Lillygol Sedaghat, and Dr. Lucy Hawkes. Marine photographer Brian Skerry will give a preview of the four-part Disney+ original series, Secrets of the Whales. The series from James Cameron will take viewers into the heart of whale culture to learn about their skills in communication and the social structures of their community. The series is narrated by Sigourney Weaver and will be available on Disney+ on Earth Day, April 22.
The one-of-a-kind virtual celebration will take place on April 21, at 8:30 p.m. EDT exclusively on the National Geographic YouTube channel and at natgeo.com/earthdayeve.
