Who needs an expensive car when you can drive around using cardboard? The Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit is the newest addition to Nintendo Labo, the game that combines the technology of Nintendo Switch with customizable cardboard creations, called Toy-Con.
The vehicle kit is launching on Sept. 14 and includes materials to build a car, a submarine, a plane, a pedal, two keys, and more—all out of cardboard. The materials needed to complete each Toy-Con creation are included and they’re simple to build without any glue, tape, or scissors required. It’s really not that hard, even for the tech- and DIY-challenged.
Players can insert one of the assembled keys into any of the cardboard vehicles to activate games and activities on the Nintendo Switch, turning the cardboard into a live-action video game of sorts. By plugging in the second key, a co-pilot can join the in-game adventures.
The technology allows players to speed through races, battle cars, fly planes, and ride underwater submarines while exploring different worlds. Each vehicle features its own special moves.
Players can take it a step further with the Toy-Con Garage, an interactive programming tool included with every Nintendo Labo kit. Toy-Con Garage helps users experiment with their Toy-Con creations, or invent their own original designs using basic household items like paper cups, stickers, and ribbon.
The Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit is available for pre-order at a suggested retail price of $69.99. You can also check out the Nintendo Labo: Variety Kit and Nintendo Labo: Robot Kit, in stores now.
