Playing is a snap — winning not so much

  • Players draw cards to place a piece on the board
  • Be the first to connect the light bulb to the battery pack
  • Introduces STEM and strategy concepts

This game from Elenco‘s Snap Circuits brand bridges the worlds of science and board game-style play. Competing either solo or against up to three others, players draw cards to determine which snap piece they will use in order to try to be the first to connect their light with the central battery pack. The first player to build a circuit and illuminate their light wins.

I’m the first to admit STEM is not my strength, which made this game intimidating at first glance. Luckily, it’s the kind of game that will both delight STEM lovers and give right-brained kids a chance to feel like they’re learning and succeeding at STEM concepts. There is a reasonable amount of luck involved, as well as alternative ways to play (offensively or defensively) and different ways to set up the board, keeping the game fresh and challenging enough for older players and parents.

The actual snaps are a little tricky to get apart (if you’re weak like me), so the very first time you play, having an adult disconnect them is advisable. After that, it should be smooth sailing.

SNAP 2 IT

Each player races to be the first to snap a path between their light and the communal battery. Build the circuit path solo or play competitively with up to four players as everyone learns the basics of electricity.
