Taking care of Tamagotchis was basically a full-time job in the 2000s. Later this year, kids will have a new way to play with these adorably addictive pets — without smuggling their keychains into class!

KessCo’s new board game Tamagotchi Collections perfectly captures the charm of the early aughts craze, emphasizing collecting, nurturing, and juggling as many chirping pets as possible. In addition to clipping keychains to old backpacks, families can share Bandai Namco’s classic toy with a new generation of fans while having fun together.

In this action-management game, kids ages 8 and up will compete head-to-head to collect and take care of Tamagotchi pets. Like the digital device, players must diligently feed, play with, and care for their gaggle of quirky pets by rolling dice — but be careful! More Tamagotchi means more mouths to feed. If the colorful creatures accidentally pile up, players could wind up losing them all.

This blast from the past will be available later this summer. Until then, kids can freshen their skills with modern-day Tamagotchi devices using the links below.

ORIGINAL TAMAGOTCHI

The Original Tamagotchi features the same programming as the original digital pet from 1997. Kids can feed it, play games with it, give it medicine, check its health, and take care of it. How kids raise it will decide which of the seven adults it will grow into. More than 40 different shell designs.
