Choo, choo! There’s something nostalgic and magical about the older Thomas the Tank Engine movies, and now parents can share those memories with their kids with the 20th anniversary edition of Thomas and the Magic Railroad.
The special version is heading to Blu-ray for the first time this September, thanks to Shout! Kids. The film stars a young Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Mara Wilson (Matilda), Peter Fonda (Easy Rider), Didi Conn (Grease), Russell Means (Pocahontas), and Thomas the Tank Engine.
In the film, Mr. Conductor (Baldwin) is taking care of the railway on the magical Island of Sodor while Sir Topham Hatt is away. Sodor’s steam engines find themselves heading for trouble when bad guy Diesel 10 plans to destroy Thomas and Mr. C to take over Sodor. Lily (Wilson) has a hunch that her grandfather (Fonda) can help save the Conductor family and the Magic Railroad. Can they get the talking trains back on track?
While Thomas and the Magic Railroad is celebrating its 20th anniversary, Thomas the Tank Engine is marking his 75th year as a beloved kids’ character, after getting his start in Rev W. Awdry’s Little Railway book series in 1945. He lives on in the current Nick Jr. TV series Thomas & Friends.
Thomas and the Magic Railroad (20th Anniversary Edition) will arrive on Blu-ray on Sept. 29. All aboard!
