The year was 2004: Everyone and their brother was playing Paper Mario on the GameCube. Now that delight will belong to the latest generation of little ones with Nintendo’s release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for the Switch!
The second game in the Paper Mario franchise, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door tells the story of Mario and Princess Peach on a treasure hunt gone wrong. The two heroes attempt to find the treasure that lies behind the thousand-year door, when, as tends to happen, Peach is abducted by aliens called the X-Nauts. Players then embark upon an epic adventure to rescue the princess and find the priceless treasure.
One major update to the game is the inclusion of a transgender character, Vivian. This marks the first English-language appearance of this character as transgender, as Vivan’s story was changed in the original 2004 English edition. The new version for the Switch also features bolstered graphics and redone music, plus an updated script.
Kids and nostalgic parents alike, get your game (cube) faces on! Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door becomes available for digital and physical purchase tomorrow, May 23, on the Nintendo Switch Shop and is available for pre-order now.
