Science meets style in Horizon Group‘s latest YOU*NIVERSE activity kit.
With the Sparking Squishy Soap set, kids will make and mold their own scented squishy soaps. The kit comes with items kids need to create five cute designs, including a dreamy unicorn, delectable doughnut, happy smiley face, sparkly heart, and yummy pizza. Please remind me that I can’t actually eat this pizza!
My favorite part about activity kits from Horizon Group is that there is always more than meets the eye, whether kids realize it or not. This set in particular is a fun and fresh way for kids to learn the science behind making soap, so kids will learn about the ingredients needed and the process behind creating an item that they use every day—all while having fun.
While this set is made for kids 8 and up, some of the steps will require an adult’s help. There are also some materials needed not included in the kit, such as a bowl, ruler, and parchment paper. A step to harden the completed soap requires a steamer and stove top, so that’s where the adult supervision comes in!
Kids will get to experiment with soap making to combine the included ingredients and then create a moldable dough to shape it—which is really fun to play with before it hardens. While shaping the different formations, the squishy dough needs to get wet and sudsy. There is enough to make one of each of the five designs, or kids can use their creativity to create something completely new!
After kids complete the easy-to-follow instructions (complete with photos for visual people like me) to create their soap, the result is really cute. Kids will have trendy but practical soap to use, featuring bright colors—and lots and lots of glitter! It also smells delicious (fruit punch, maybe?), and I want this scent as a perfume!
This kit is perfect for kids to make on their own or for an activity to do during a sleepover. Or, kids can also create these soaps and wrap them up to give as gifts, which is a really chic and cute idea to add to some sort of gift basket. Scientific fact: Everything is at least 20 percent cuter if you DIY it.
The kit also comes with a really vibrant and colorful poster with fun facts about bubbles and soap. Did you know that the earliest soap was made by the Babylonians around 2800 B.C.? I am thankful to the Babylonians.
