Barbie is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the release of an Inspiring Women doll honoring Dr. Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman in space. The doll, available at Mattel Shop ($37.80), is recommended for kids ages 6 and up.
The doll features an authentic orange space suit complete with mission insignia patches, gloves, boots, and a helmet. The Barbie design team collaborated with Dr. Ochoa to ensure the look accurately reflects the suits she wore during her first missions.

Dr. Ochoa’s record-breaking career as a NASA engineer and astronaut includes four space shuttle missions, nearly 1,000 hours in orbit, and service as the Johnson Space Center’s 11th director — the first Hispanic director and second female director of the center. For her groundbreaking achievements in STEM, she has received NASA’s Distinguished Service Medal and, in 2024, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, the Barbie Dream Gap Project is supporting the Latinas in STEM Foundation, which empowers young Latina students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math through mentorship, education, and community building.
