Disney Frozen Jenga Review

Deep down, we’re all super jealous of Elsa’s ice palace, right? Just like Elsa herself, the palace from Disney Frozen is majestic, mighty, and miraculous on the outside, but soft, sensitive, and snug on the inside. One of the coolest scenes in the movie is when Elsa builds up that palace with her magic—brick by brick. With Jena: Disney Frozen Edition, from Hasbro Gaming, kids can have a go at Elsa’s powers and stack ice blocks into a tower to build her ice palace.

With this game, Elsa fans can delve into classic Jenga play with a Disney Frozen twist. Kids can go solo like queen herself, and build the tower on their own. Or they can enter a fun contest with friends to see who can stack higher or longer. The aim of the game is to be the guy or gal to win the honor of placing Elsa in her balcony in the end.

This game set comes with an ice palace frame, an ice palace balcony (I absolutely love its super cute miniature looks), 23 Jenga ice blocks, an Elsa figure (in her “Let It Go” stance with arms wide open), a snowflake wand, and a setup card. If kids accidentally drop the game set on the floor, or if the tower breaks, it won’t shatter into a million pieces. It’s made of durable plastic, even though the ice blocks look really crystalized. Try holding them against light and check out the cool ice patterns on their surfaces. Trust me, kids will appreciate the detailing!

Frozen Jenga Review

First, set up the ice palace frame by joining its two halves, and line up the setup card against it. Then just follow the ice patterns on the setup card to match the ice blocks and stack them on the frame. Use one hand (even though Elsa’s snowflake wand might tempt you) on the back of the setup card, and the other on the blocks to make sure the ice palace stands up straight. Once the tower’s base is done, place the ice palace balcony on the center block. But be careful you don’t let the tower fall!

When kids are playing with friends, they must build the tower together and then roll the special die to determine their move. The die features Olaf, a snowflake, and each of the four colors of the ice blocks. Then, using just the snowflake wand (and, of course, their magical powers), players push the specified block out of the ice wall without letting the balcony fall and transfer that ice block to the top of the tower. If the balcony falls on your turn, you’re out!

The first player to build the ice palace up 10 levels high places Elsa on her high and mighty balcony. If Elsa doesn’t topple over, that player is declared the winner. Otherwise, they’ll be left with a pile of blocks and can start building all over again. There’s another catch to the game: The winner has to do their best impression of the Snow Queen. Trust me, after all the nerve-wrecking building, singing can help with letting go of all that stress.
