It’s hammer time!
The classic preschool construction toy gets a modern upgrade with VTech’s Drill and Learn Workbench. It features a workstation, peg board, and, of course, plenty of fun (and safe!) tools. Kids can get to work with dozens of building pieces and create DIY projects.
Little construction aficionados can explore the drill press, sander, and circular saw. Each one shares sounds and facts about itself when placed on the bench. Other tools include a screwdriver, a vise (yes I did have to Google that one), and a hammer. These tools share jokes (I wish mine did that), and tell kids what color they are.
The workbench itself features colorful buttons that offer different ways to interact. Kids can listen to songs, hear the sounds of their tools, and answer quiz questions. There’s also a measuring tool to help young builders build an understanding of numbers.
For young DIY-ers who desire a bit of guidance, this set comes with instructions on how to build nine different projects. If they prefer to drill their own path, they can create unique designs with the pieces. Of course, all of the accessories and tools provided are safe for little hands to use. They can build their own little house without any of the stress or danger of building an actual house. It also gets them familiar with the tools and teaches them these ones are for play, and mom and dad’s are for staying away from.
As a toddler mom who watches way too much HGTV, I’m excited about the prospect of turning my daughter into a little DIY star. It’s also great to know that while she’s gaining a love of the things I do, she’s also learning about the world around her in an age appropriate way.
If you’re still looking for that showstopper present to put under the tree this year, the Drill and Learn Workbench is a great choice for under $50. At almost 3 feet tall, it’s designed to wow and to last.
