R & R Games’ Hearts of AttrAction is the irresistible, flirtier version of the company’s original magnetic game AttrAction. Strategy and a little bit of luck results in chain reactions that allow players to hone their Cupid-like magnet-shooting skills in this fun new game.
The game has a speedy and simple setup. Two to five players place all of the hearts on a smooth surface so that no two hearts are touching. (This proves to be a bit of a challenge if you don’t have a wide enough surface because of the strength of the magnets’ attractions. Each of the players takes one heart to use as his or her first “shooter” and then take turns placing that shooter on the edge of the surface and sliding it to collect other hearts.
Due to the power of attraction, hearts will cling together to form clusters. The player who released the heart can then take one of those clusters. When the table is cleared, whoever has the most hearts wins. There aren’t any exact rules on where your shooter has to be placed on the edge of the table (although it is in the rules that the player must remain seated), so the game encourages strategic thinking skills. The instructions also include rules for advanced play, which adds new challenges to the game, once you become a magnet-shooting expert.
The speedy gameplay is perfect for teens. It only takes about 10 minutes to get through a round, and the rounds can be played over and over again. It’ll keep them busy and entertained for a little while, but doesn’t require a huge time commitment either.
Due to magnet safety, the game is recommended for kids ages 14 and up. Although kids a bit younger may be able to grasp the concept that they shouldn’t stick the magnets in their mouth and/or swallow them, the magnets’ attraction force is quite strong, so I’d stick with the recommended age range.
The way the magnets are stored inside of the packaging is really cute as well. It allows for quick and easy cleanup and helps you keep track of all those magnets in one place without just tossing them in a box. If you aren’t all about carrying the box on-the-go, Hearts of Attraction also comes with a little drawstring bag, making it a great game for travel.
