With VTech’s Sofia the First Wave to Me Magic Wand, kids ages 2 to 5 can have a magical experience as they learn letters, numbers, counting, and music. This beautiful wand is more than a princess accessory as it has many developmental benefits that promote language development, basic math skills, and creative play.
One of the first things I noticed about this toy was the volume-control setting on the back of the wand. I feel like that simple feature really enhances the toy because it can be played on low, medium, or loud. This way, there are no limitations to where and when kids can play and learn with the wand. If parents are distracted by how loud the toy is, the volume can simply be lowered, instead of the toy needing to be turned off altogether. Although volume control isn’t a new concept for toys, it’s still important and I feel like it would have saved my own Mom a couple hundred headaches when I was a kid.
The real learning begins with Princess Prep as Sofia the First (in the voice of the show’s Sofia the First) asks kids to wave the wand if they would like to learn about letters. After that, a big, bold letter “A” pops up on the wand’s animated LCD screen so kids can both hear what the letter sounds like and see what it looks like. As kids continue to wave the wand, Sofia will go through the alphabet in its entirety, showing the letters and saying them out loud. This is a foolproof way for kids to master the alphabet in no time. Switch to the number game and kids will be introduced to numbers in a similar way, waving the wand to count to the number that Sofia says.
Aside from being an educational toy, the Wave to Me Magic Wand is great for imaginative play and role play. As an image of Sophia dances around in her ball ground, kids have control over the music that plays, providing a truly enchanted experience. As kids dance around to the melodies, they can also wave the wand to hear magical sounds and play a beautiful flashing light that makes the music even more fun.
