Little gamers get ready — Mario is back for more movie action!
MAR10 Day ended just yesterday, but Nintendo has made sure there’s plenty of future fun for kids to look forward to. Celebrating their most well-known character, Nintendo released a video revealing plans for a new movie. Little fans of the original The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be eager to know there’s more on the way!
Shigeru Miyamoto, video game designer, producer, and game director at Nintendo, made a surprise appearance in the MAR10 Day video to reveal Nintendo’s plans for a new animated movie, made in partnership with Illumination — the same production company that worked on the original The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The directors of the original will be making a return as well, with Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic back for the new film.
Also coming up for Super Mario fans is a full slate of Switch versions of familiar video games. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be released on Switch May 23, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD will come to Switch June 27, and three classic Game Boy games will launch on Nintendo Switch Online tomorrow: Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis.
With plans to expand the world of Mario and following the success of the first Super Mario Bros. film, Nintendo is looking to the future with a new animated offering. The new movie will be released on April 3, 2026 in the U.S. Get ready for another adventure across the Mushroom Kingdom!
