Media Mashup

Looking to find your kids’ new favorite TV series? Don’t worry, Nickelodeon has you covered. Earlier today, the TV network unveiled details of its content slate for this year, spanning spinoffs, animated series, and anticipated show renewals. There’s a Spongebob Squarepants spinoff, a new Blue’s Clues & You! season, and more on the way. Keep reading for more details about the upcoming series and made-for-TV flicks.

The Astronauts

For the first time, Nick teams up with Imagine Kids + Family for a live-action series starring a group of kids who are mistakenly launched into space. The Astronauts (working title) is currently slated for 10 episodes, kicking off with a summer premiere. On the show, spaceship Odyssey II is set to launch into outer space on a mission to investigate a mysterious asteroid that passes Earth. However, a group of friends — who are gathered to watch the liftoff — sneak onto the empty ship using their parent’s security clearance and accidentally initiate the launch into space early.

The Loud House: A Very Loud Christmas!

The popular animated series gets its own TV movie for the holidays, set to debut during this year’s fourth quarter. In this live-action adaptation, Lincoln Loud gets ready for the ultimate Christmas — until he realizes his sisters have plans elsewhere. Lincoln embarks on a mission to remind his family that they should spend the holiday together as he and best friend Clyde attempt to sabotage all their plans to preserve the family’s holiday traditions.

Danger Force

Henry Danger’s world just got a little bigger. Nick plans to expand its popular Henry Danger series with an original spinoff series, titled Danger Force, premiering on March 28 with a new superhero crew and a few Henry fan-favorites. Cooper Barnes and Michael D. Cohen will be back as Ray/Captain Man and Schwoz, respectively.

The 13-episode first season will follow four kids — Chapa, Miles, Mika, and Bose — as they are recruited to attend Swellview Academy for the Gifted (S.W.A.G.). While there, the new students must learn to harness their sometimes-troublesome powers to fight crime and keep their super-identities under wraps from their families and any villains. These brand-new heroes will be introduced this spring on the final episodes of Henry Danger.

Big Nate

In HarperCollins’ book series, Nate has conquered sixth grade, and now he’s taking his journey from the page to the screen! A brand-new, animated, 26-episode series will follow precocious 11-year-old Nate and his best friends as they navigate the tricky minefield of middle school. The series will feature original storylines for the mischievous sixth grader and his pals, with plenty of humor and author Lincoln Peirce’s signature style.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan

Kid rapper Young Dylan joins the Nick family on the new Tyler Perry series premiering on Feb. 29. The show — executive produced, directed, and written by Perry — follows a family whose world is flipped when their nephew, aspiring hip-hop star Young Dylan, is sent to live indefinitely with his well-to-do uncle, aunt, and cousins. In the family comedy, the Wilson household must adapt as cultures clash between Dylan’s hip-hop “swag” and his straight-laced cousins.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under-Years

The first SpongeBob prequel will air this July and star a 10-year-old SpongeBob who attends sleepaway Kamp Koral with his friends. The new animated series will reunite the whole Bikini Bottom crew at camp and introduce audiences to new narwhal siblings Nobby and Narlene.

In addition, several popular series will return with new seasons and brand-new episodes. Are You Afraid of the Dark?, The Casagrandes, and Top Elf will be back for sophomore seasons, while All That will air 10 more new episodes as part of its first season. The network also ordered new seasons of Blue’s Clues & You!, PAW Patrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines, and Bubble Guppies.
