Assemble the Minions! This summer, cinema’s most despicable crew is scheming their way back to theaters everywhere in an all new Despicable Me prequel!
Minions: The Rise of Gru tells the origin story of Felonius Gru (Steve Carell) and his small, yellow accomplices. Long before becoming a nefarious villain — and later, a renowned hero — Gru is just a suburban 12-year-old boy plotting to take over the world from his basement. He crosses paths with minions Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto (a new Minion character with braces) and exploits the small creatures’ desire to please, recruiting them to help build his evil fortress.
The film introduces a new roster of antagonists: the Vicious 6, a group of legendary supervillains voiced by iconic Hollywood names including Taraji P. Henson (Belle Bottom), Jean-Claude Van Damme (Jean Clawed), Lucy Lawless (Nunchuck), Dolph Lundgren (Svengeance), Danny Trejo (Stronghold), and Oscar winner Alan Arkin (Wild Knuckles). Gru is the ultimate Vicious 6 fanboy, until a display of his unprecedented wit leaves the group enraged. With Gru on the run, the Minions attempt to master the art of kung fu to help save him, and Gru discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.
Produced by Illumination, the company behind the entire animated franchise, Minions: The Rise of Gru hits theaters July 1. Check out the trailer below!
