Pyramix is a golden jewel to have in stock for family game night. This product, from Gamewright, is a three-sided strategy game where players must pull apart a pyramid made of cubes to win. It is a fast-paced, tactical, and balances present decisions with future actions and consequences.
Made for players ages 8 and up, the object of the game is to get the most points in each of the four colors and symbols that the cubes come in. The cubes, about the same size of a standard die, bear the symbols ankh, crane, eye, and cobra. Players remove one cube from the pyramid per turn. As the cubes come out, others will slide down toward the base. However, the catch is that a cube can’t removed if it exposes the base tray, touches a cobra on any flat size, or doesn’t have either two or three faces showing. Players must plan their moves carefully as the bottom-most cubes are worth big points in the end!
One of the best parts about this game is the design—it is simple yet elegant, and thought provoking yet fun. Everything about this product is triangular, from the game itself to the instruction manual. The rules even state that the person who goes first should be the one who has the most triangular nose!
Thinking ahead and having a precise tactic is key for this game. Strategies could include collecting high scoring cubes early, or hoping to get a big payout at the end of the game. Make sure the cascading cubes don’t wreck your plan!
