The fastest hedgehog alive is coming back for seconds! Paramount Pictures is speeding ahead with a sequel to the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film.
The first Sonic movie, which debuted in February of this year, followed the super-fast hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he teamed up with a human named Tom (played by James Marsden) to save the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (played by Jim Carrey).
The character’s appearance drew criticism and body shaming from fans for his extremely muscular thighs and strangely human teeth in the first trailers, prompting a redesign from Paramount and SEGA. Fans proved to be satisfied with the redesign; the movie grossed more than $300 million in theaters.
Director Jeff Fowler and screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller will all return for the sequel. No casting decisions or production dates have been announced yet.
