From fiery volcanoes to fossils, rocks have several stories to tell — and they’re ready for their close-up! This summer, Penguin Random House is putting stones in the spotlight with a new picture book about how rocks totally rock.

In Talking Rocks and Minerals: A Fact-Packed Guide to Geology, reporter Pebble the Rock embarks on a journey through geology, interviewing different rock families to learn how they came to be. Filled with fun facts and puns galore, little explorers will discover the origins of their favorite rocks, where to find them, and what makes each one unique. Families can add this rockin’ book to their library on July 1.

Created by former National Geographic editor Paige Towler, this quirky book breaks down the science behind stones, from formation to erosion. After the story, little scientists can join in the investigation with a field guide, which includes a note from a real geologist and tips for spotting igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks in their own backyards.

Talking Rocks and Minerals: A Fact-Packed Guide to Geology will launch July 1, just in time for National Rock Day! Families can preorder the book now to make their storytime totally rock.
