A little white lie never hurt anyone!
A new game from Exploding Kittens and Penn Jillette of the magic duo Penn & Teller encourages family game nights to get a little more distrustful. In You Lying Sack, the best liar comes out on top.
At the beginning of the game, each player starts with two “bad things.” The sack sits in the middle of the game and is filled with more bad things as well as a single “good thing.” Foam red triangles represent the bad things, while a blue rubber rectangle represents the good thing. Players will reach into the sack to either secretly grab some bad things or the good thing.
Then, with the mystery items hidden in a clenched fist, players need to convince the others to take whatever they grabbed — or maybe hope they can bluff their way into avoiding that exchange if they’re in possession of the good thing. If a player convinces another to take some bad things, the red triangles get added to their pile. If a player manages to hold onto or take the good thing, they get to give other players some of their bad things. Players who collect 10 bad things are out of the game, and whichever player manages to last the longest wins.
“While I’ve made a living as a magician, at my core I’m really just a professional liar who plays within the lines between the truth and lies —– and that was the inspiration of the game,” says Penn Jillette, professional magician and entertainer. “You Lying Sack is all about lying, cheating, and swindling your friends and family. You’ll have to do mental gymnastics to win the game so may the best liar win.”
You Lying Sack is recommended for ages 7 and up, and is meant for up to five players. The game is available now at Exploding Kittens’ website for $19.99, and will launch in Walmart this January.
