Learning how to read can be a complicated journey, but the payoff is huge once kids get the hang of it. Osmo by BYJU’s is giving kids a new approach to reading by using the technology of speech recognition to create a personalized reading experience.

The Osmo Reading Adventure is an interactive, subscription-based, learn-to-read program developed with the help of educators to turn reading into a game that helps kids build skills and confidence. First, parents can determine their kid’s reading level by choosing from three different reading kits for reading skills for kindergarten through first grade. There are kits for beginners that target blending sounds together to read new words, or kits for more advanced readers that feature texts with more complex spelling patterns.

Parents can select a subscription level of 3 months, 6 months, or a year to receive physical books and a kit with accessories and access to digital games. Kids can use their own tablet (not included) to play educational games that combine physical pieces, tangible books, and digital play in an interactive way.

The kits feature characters named Oliver and Nebula who will take kids on a magical reading journey. Oliver is enthusiastic, optimistic, and still learning how to read himself. Nebula knows everything there is to know about language and reading, but she’ll need kids’ help to turn that language into magic through kids’ voices. The program includes skill-building games and activities, and adapts to meet the skill level of the player for a more dynamic experience.
