American Girl is kicking off the new year in style!

Before the ball could even drop in Times Square, Mattel‘s famous 18-inch doll brand introduced its 2023 Girl of the Year, Kavi Sharma.

Kavi (pronounced KUH-vee and short for Kavika) hails from Metuchen, New Jersey where she lives with her Hindu Indian-American family. Her big interests include learning Bollywood dances, singing show tunes, and checking out the latest Broadway shows (Wicked is her favorite).

New York Times bestselling author Varsha Bajaj penned the companion book that explores Kavi’s story with an overarching message about “the importance of finding a healthy rhythm in life” and that kids should “share their talents, pursue new interests, and take pride in who they are.”
