As a mom in the toy industry you may think I’m the girl who has everything. It’s almost true. I’ve got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty and I’ve got whozits and whatzits galore. Thingamabobs? I’ve got 20, but who cares? My toddler wants more.
Luckily, the Disney Princess Style Collection Gourmet Kitchen from JAKKS Pacific just became a part of our world. If you’re still looking for that perfect splurge-worthy gift this holiday season, keep reading!
It’s the style of Disney Princess and the fun of a pretend kitchen all wrapped into one. The playset features five sound effects, more than 35 accessories, and a Majestic Meal Kit (more on that later!). It makes kids feel like they’re in a real kitchen without actually having them get into all your spices and break your favorite dishes. That’s true Disney magic.
A dream is a wish your heart makes — and right now, my heart is asking for a grown up-size kitchen that’s this cute. The fridge, oven, microwave, kitchen hood, and dishwasher (!) are all a shade of pink, while there are golden, white, and silver accents a-plenty. Tiana, Ariel, and Rapunzel are featured on the fridge and dishwasher to add a little touch of royalty.
While you may not be able to have a pink oven, I do have some good news: The stickers on this set come pre-stuck! You won’t have to attempt to perfectly place the princesses only to end up with them slightly diagonal forever. However, if you don’t have a fairy godmother on your side, you will have to bippity, boppity, build the playset yourself. It takes about an hour, so if you’re going to give the kitchen as a Christmas gift, you can build it the night before with your favorite seasonal beverage in hand and still have time left to watch It’s A Wonderful Life. It is truly a wonderful life when the instructions are easy to follow (there’s a video online!) and you don’t have to break out the tiny screwdrivers.
For kids, the magic is in the play factor. Each of the appliances features life-like sounds: The sink emits water noises, the dishwasher lets kids know when the dishes are done, and there’s enough cooking sounds to go around. It’s full steam ahead into role play, literally! Kids can cook with “real” steam that comes out of the pot.
The kitchen comes with 35 accessories, including an herb garden, a trash and recycling can, utensils, a cutting board, and more. It also features the Pasta Night Meal Box, which has an interactive recipe card that kids can slide into the recipe “tablet” to get some help with their magical meal. The meal serves up more fun with a can that makes opening sounds and spaghetti that changes color with cold water.
You’re probably wondering how it could get more magical than this, and the answer is sales! While it retails for $199 originally, it’s currently on sale on Amazon for $159.99 with a $25 off coupon, bringing the total price to $134.99. You can’t get more magical than a $70 discount.
