Donkey Hodie is trotting onto PBS Kids this spring, offering kids a whimsical new puppet series from Fred Rogers Productions and Spiffy Pictures.
Inspired by Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the show targets preschoolers as it encourages them to conquer their goals by dreaming big and working hard. The story features the adventurous Donkey Hodie, who is actually the granddaughter of the Donkey Hodie that appeared on Mister Rogers’. After appearing in 59 episodes alongside Fred Rogers, the original is still here and is now named Grampy Hodie. The younger Donkey Hodie takes Rogers’ sense of humor as she helps kids overcome many challenges.
Donkey Hodie is the star but you can’t have adventures without friends. The show will introduce Purple Panda, Duck Duck, and Bob Dog. The gang’s adventures take place in Someplace Else, where big dreams can come true as the puppets teach kids about teamwork, empathy, and resilience. The show’s positive messages are reinforced through new music, as well as reimagined versions of classic songs.
Watch for new digital content on the free PBS Kids Games app, which will launch alongside the series. Families can also stream full episodes, clips, and more on the PBS Kids Video app. Resources for teachers and parents are available via PBS Learning Media, including video excerpts, games, tips, and printable activities.
Donkey Hodie premieres on May 3 on PBS Kids.
