Harmonix announced that it will team up with Mad Catz to bring Rock Band 4, the next generation of the Rock Band social and interactive music gaming platform, to PlayStation4 and Xbox One later this year.
Rock Band 4 brings the franchise to this new generation of consoles, focusing on the features and gameplay that users love, while also allowing for new, innovative elements that were implemented based on how fans play and what they want. Harmonix will reveal more features about the game to its fans this May.
In addition to the on-disc soundtrack—which usually in these games gives you and your family TONS of rocking out time—Rock Band 4 will support more than 2,000 tracks released since the 2007 launch of the original Rock Band, meaning it will feature music from more than 500 legendary rock artists. Plus, players who have purchased or downloaded playable tracks on last-generation consoles will be able to download and play those tracks on the new platforms at no additional charge. In addition to all the tunes introduced at launch, there will be plenty of back catalog music and new tracks added regularly after the launch of the game.
And that’s not all: To celebrate the announcement of the highly anticipated Rock Band 4, Harmonix is offering a free downloadable track of “I Still Believe,” recorded by UK-based Frank Turner for his EP, Rock & Roll. The FREE download is available today on PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 to play in Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz. After the launch of the new game, this is one of the songs that will be compatible with Rock Band 4.
Players who just can’t wait to rock can sign up here for alerts on when pre-orders go live. Additionally, fans attending PAX East in Boston this weekend can pre-order an exclusive Penny Arcade-themed guitar in person at Harmonix’s booth.
