As election year activities kick into high gear, PBS Kids is launching a civics content program for kids to learn about social studies and get involved in their communities. The program will include content from new and existing series, including a second series of City Island, live-action shorts, and more.
City Island is a series of animated shorts for early elementary school kids in which every object is a character. The series features local organizations and government institutions and highlights topics including cooperation, conflict resolution, and city planning. The second season of City Island will have 20 episodes that release every Friday starting July 5 and will feature topics including media literacy, fact-based reporting, advertising, and the flow of information online. PBS Kids is also launching a spinoff of the series, City Island Sings, which features 10 music videos that will launch on streaming platforms every Wednesday and Friday starting on May 29.
Sesame Workshop also created and produced Together We Can, a series of 20 live-action music videos that cover topics like what it means to be a member of a community, the importance of rules and rights, and concepts like voting and democracy. The first 10 episodes of Together We Can will launch on July 3, with the second wave launching on Aug. 7.
Other additions to the program include new episodes of Rosie’s Rules, Arthur, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Molly of Denali, Alma’s Way, Peg + Cat, and Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum.
Kids may not be old enough to vote, but it’s never too early to help them get excited about civics and community involvement!
