The Pokémon trading card game Scarlet & Violet — Obsidian Flames expansion will launch this summer and little trainers can look forward to new Energy types.
The Scarlet & Violet — Obsidian Flames expansion introduces type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex cards featuring different Energy types. For example, trainers will find Charizard ex as a Darkness type versus its usual Fire type and Tyranitar ex as a Lightning type versus its usual Fighting type or Darkness type. During an attack, type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex use the same Energy as its usual type, however, it has a different weakness that corresponds with its shifted type. The new cards will follow the same rules as existing Pokémon ex, except when Knocked Out, the type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex gives up two Prize cards instead of one.
Some highlights from the expansion include 15 Pokémon ex, six Tera Pokémon ex, 12 illustration rare Pokémon, six special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards, 12 ultra rare full-art etched Pokémon ex and Supporter cards, and three hyper rare gold etched cards.
The expansion will be available in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and special collections at Pokemon Center and select retailers, including toy stores, hobby shops, and local game stores on Aug. 11. Equipped with two additional booster packs and one additional illustration rare style promo card, the Scarlet & Violet — Obsidian Flames Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box is available for preorder now at pokemoncenter.com in addition to other products inspired by the expansion.
Ahead of the release, trainers can play Scarlet & Violet — Obsidian Flames on the Pokémon TCG Live app for iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows on Aug. 10.
When logging in, the Scarlet & Violet — Obsidian Flames Battle Pass will reward players with a new deck, featuring Darkness-type Charizard ex. Players can also unlock an additional premium deck featuring Toedscruel ex by redeeming Crystals, earned by completing daily quests.
